Philosophy

We want to make work meaningful every day in our STEM lab, doing good not just well.

Sustainability

After many years seeing the waste of resources and materials in innumerable research projects that often do not result in fruitful data, my team has the firm intention of designing and building Sustainable Science. Our idea is to cover only what we can and no more, think very prudently about the tools we need, carefully design these tools and how to use them, plan each little experiment beforehand so we make our best not to waste resources.

We are aware how much we need to learn so we will be continuously looking for innovative ideas, suggestions, and collaborative efforts for improving and inculcating sustainable laboratory practices. We will gain real awareness in our day to day to “Green our lab” saving energy, reducing waste, maintaining equipment to maximize efficiency and conserving the resources.

Transferability

Data trustworthiness has four key components: credibility, dependability, consistency and transferability. We truly believe that most of our research findings could be applicable to other contexts, situations, times… to Society. We as researchers must provide the evidence that our findings could be applicable to make society progress and to improve people´s lives. With such purpose, we will perform our daily job, always thinking on the final goal of our research: People.

Empathy

We commonly think on Empathy as a single attribute. However, a closer look reveals three distinct kinds of empathy, each important for leadership effectiveness: the cognitive empathy or the ability to understand another person´s perspective; the emotional empathy or the ability to feel what someone else feels; the empathic concerns or the ability to sense what another person needs from us.

This pillar of our lab is probably the easiest and at the same time, the most challenging. Cultivating all those different empathies is crucial to be a good leader and to build our relationships as a team.

Motivation

When trust, loyalty and creativity are high and stress is low, the team works happier and definitely, is more productive. The motivation moves our daily work and makes us even more creative than we thought we might be. Creativeness and Inspiration are essential in Science, which is kind of an Art. We truly believe that empowering people and their talent leads to motivation and therefore, to better outcomes. Motivation also encourages Responsibility, another key achievement in Research.
